Start your day with an insightful look at the bustling city of Colombo with a local guide who will take you down the backstreets to the quitter less explored areas of the capital city. Heading south you visit an ethical turtle hatchery and learn the energetic way that these group of local conservationist are protecting and rehabilitating Sri Lanka’s turtle population.

Spend your time relaxing on the beaches, snorkelling with turtles, surfing or heading into the local area to discover some of Sri Lanka’s less explored areas. Seafood is abundant and the locals know just how to cook it!

The giants of the sea, the great blue whales live in the deep waters just off shore from Mirissa’s coastline. Join a guided exploration of the warm waters by boat to catch a glimpse of a whale close to the surface or playful dolphins who walk frequent the waters.

The afternoon is at leisure, there are some great local beachside cafes and the beach is a perfect place to spend the early evening as the sun goes down.

A walk to rocky palm tree topped peninsula is a great way to spend your morning. Weligama beach is a short drive away and well worth exploring. the beaches are safe for swimming and perfect for all levels of surfers.

Heading further south you will arrive at UNESCO world heritage Yala national park for an afternoon of off road adventure. On a private, guided 4×4 safari the opportunities to see Sri Lanka’s diverse range of floor and fauna and of course the Sri Lankan leopard and lazy sloth bears. Elephants also frequent the park and are readily spotted.

Day 7 Yala to Galle

This morning is an early start to head back into Yala national Park in search of wildlife who are most active as the sun’s coming up. Heading along the bumpy roads through the low lying scrubland  keep your camera ready as you never know which the direction the wildlife are in.

The afternoon is a perfect time to head into the local town of Tissamaharama for an insight into local customs. look upwards to the bright white Buddhist dagoba’s, and spend time exploring Tissamaharama Raja Maha. Travel along the coast up north to the Portuguese settlement of Galle Fort for the evening.

The tea experience awaits today. Sri Lanka’s famous export is produced year round in the colonial plantations through out the souther regions of the island. Toady you head to the most coastal tea plantation for what we call a ‘teaology experience’. Your host will guide through an interactive look into the process of tea from growing through the factory and finally sampling the many different varieties of tea that are now famous through out the world.

Discover the well preserved UNESCO world heritage site of Galle Fort with a local for the afternoon. An insightful experience about the history of Sri Lanka’s coastal walled town.
